We all know that Aussie Rules is the greatest game in the world; to watch, barrack for and to play as well. Most girls and women growing up in footy-mad Melbourne don't realise that they too can experience the joys of donning a guernsey and boots and playing for THEIR team.
The Melbourne University Girls' Aussie Rules Squad (the MUGARS) is Melbourne University's one and only club for Women's Aussie Rules Football. Originally founded in 1996, the MUGARS entered into the Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL) in 1997, having a very successful first season for a new club. Since then we have expanded and now have 3 teams catering for players of all abilities, making us the largest women's football club in Australia.
The MUGARS are keen for new recruits for season 2011!
If you are
Then we need you!
You don't have to:
The MUGARS came into existence with just a handful of players. We introduced a second team in 2000, a third team in 2003 and a Youth Girls team in 2005. In 2005 the Division 1 and 1 Reserves sides both won the flag while our division three side also celebrated its most successful year to date. The MUWFC has won 5 VWFL premierships since 2002 in the Premier and Premier Reserves competitions.
The MUGARS cater for those who've never picked up a Sherrin in their lives, as well as those who've played before. All of the Feel free to browse through the site and if you have any questions regarding the club or wish for someone to contact you with more information on joining the club, please go to New Players.
Come on board and make 2011 the Year of the MUGAR! |

experienced players are happy to show new players the skills and with three senior teams and a junior team, everyone will get a chance to slug it out on the field before too long. We are also one of the friendliest teams in the competition, with plenty of after-hours social activities on the agenda. We always enjoy having new people join the club in any capacity.
